Get to know Shoots Chinese Restaurant

Business Owner: Kam Wing Kwok
Business: Shoots Chinese Restaurant
Location: Provo, Utah

Meet Kam Wing Kwok
He introduces himself as Gary because, “Most people have a really hard time pronouncing my real name.” He moved his family to Utah from Hong Kong 20 years ago and that’s where the Shoots restaurant journey starts.

“My biggest win is making lots of friends, and providing a good service for them. You need to love what you do, not just money, of course money is important but you need to love the service. I love making food for people to make them happy.”

The Early Stages
We are talking really early stages here. Initially Gary owned a restaurant, which actually helped him keep his green card. The business wasn’t doing so well so he decided to sell it.  He then went to a different restaurant where he learned how to cook. After his confidence with cooking food was boosted he went on to manage a Panda Express for 7 years where he learned to properly manage a restaurant. He had lots of success while he was with Panda Express, in one year helping them bring in over 1.5 million dollars. He decided it was time to try running his own restaurant again. So 7 years ago he opened Shoots Chinese Restaurant in Provo, Utah where he has been ever since, making friendships and the best Chinese food around.

Gary’s Biggest Win
Gary’s biggest win shows his love for what he does. “My biggest win is making lots of friends, and providing a good service for them.” Gary loves providing friends and family with food that makes them happy. His advice to someone about to start on a similar journey is simple, and it emulates his biggest win. “First you need to love what you do, not just money, of course money is important but you need to love the service. I love making food for people to make them happy. Also working hard with no laziness.”
